Cockroaches in Winnipeg Homes
The German cockroach is the dominant species found in Winnipeg apartments, restaurants, and homes. They breed incredibly fast — a single female can produce hundreds of offspring in her lifetime — meaning a small infestation can explode within weeks.
Cockroaches contaminate food and surfaces, trigger asthma and allergies, and carry bacteria including Salmonella and E. coli. They are primarily nocturnal, so seeing them during the day is a sign of a large infestation.
Signs of a Cockroach Problem
- Droppings that look like black pepper or coffee grounds in drawers and cabinets
- A musty, oily odour in the kitchen or bathroom
- Egg cases (oothecae) behind appliances or in cracks
- Live cockroaches seen during the day
- Smear marks along walls near moisture sources
Our Cockroach Treatment
- Inspection: We identify the species, locate harborage areas (behind fridges, stoves, under sinks, inside walls), and assess the level of infestation.
- Gel Bait Application: The most effective method for German cockroaches — we place bait in cracks, crevices, and harborage areas. Cockroaches consume the bait and carry it back to the colony, eliminating it from within.
- Residual Insecticide: Applied to harborage areas and perimeter zones to kill any cockroaches that contact treated surfaces.
- Insect Growth Regulator (IGR): Disrupts the reproductive cycle, preventing eggs from hatching and juveniles from maturing.
- Follow-up: Cockroach elimination requires multiple treatments. We schedule follow-ups at 2–3 week intervals to treat newly hatched nymphs.
